New Year, New You - really??

As we enter a new year, we are generally bombarded with messages about getting fitter, changing our diet, taking up a whole set of new habits and activities or signing up to new fitness progammes.

Whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with resetting and reflecting on changes you may wish to make, I advise my clients and gym members that taking on too much at once is usually unsustainable and quite soon disillusionment and demotivation can be the results

Instead, consider habit stacking and build up steadily to your goals. For example, if you always have a coffee mid morning, can you make that your time for a 10 minute meditation or a walk or jog in park first. Start with something achievable and it must be enjoyable. Don't vow to swim 40 lengths 3 times a week if you really dislike swimming; Instead think of what truly appeals to you and do that. Add in a dance class if you love music or join a walking club if you love getting outdoors. It doesn't have to be complicated. And rather than think of denying yourself treats to lose weight turn it around and consider where you might need to add more nutrition to your daily intake.
