Although sometimes we struggle to maintain a consistent workout regime, it's also possible to fall into the trap of doing too much and not taking advantage of vital rest days.
Fitness instructors and personal trainers talk about micro-tears in muscles as a good thing - this means that when we train, micro tears occur in muscle tissues. When we rest, we allow these tissues to repair and get stronger as a result. This does not mean we cannot exercise every day in some form but it's important to change the emphasis and give muscle groups a break so they can develop. Your weekly regime will be unique to you of course but bear in mind your muscles need rest to grow.
